Cost Of Surgery

There is an initial consultation fee with Dr Cooper that will be partly rebated through Medicare after the consultation.Surgical fees will be discussed at the time of your initial consultation with Dr Cooper. After your initial consultation with Dr Cooper we supply you with a written quote for the total cost of your surgery.

The cost of surgery is made up of these five different fees:

  1. The Anaesthetist’s fees cover your pre-operative consultation with the anaesthetist and the anaesthetist’s services during your procedure. After surgery you will be able to claim some rebate from Medicare and if privately insured, from your health fund.
  2. The hospital fee covers your theatre and bed fees for your stay in hospital. Each hospital has a different fee structure and one hospital may be more expensive than another. Pharmacy fees for medication may be included or may be payable on discharge. If you are privately insured and you have been with your health fund for 12 months, have no gap, excess or exclusions, your health fund may cover your hospital stay. If you are uninsured, Medicare does not cover hospital fees.
  3. Dr Cooper’s fee is inclusive of his surgical fee, a free pre-operative consultation with our practice nurse, your immediate post operative care and three month post operative check. You will be able to get some rebate from Medicare and if privately insured, from your health fund after surgery.
  4. A pressure garment is required to be worn continuously for 2 weeks post operatively. We refer you to “Hidden Lace”, Subiaco where you will be fitted for the garment by ladies who are specially trained. The garment needs to be taken to hospital. We do suggest that you purchase two garments so that one can be washed whilst wearing the other.

Payment Time Frame

Dr Cooper will bill you after surgery. The anaesthetist will usually bill you following surgery as well. If you are privately insured the hospital fees will probably be covered but you will need to confirm directly with your health fund. If you are uninsured you will be required to pay the hospital fees directly to the hospital prior to surgery.
