The SurgeryBe sure you are well informed about breast augmentation surgery and everything it involves including your expected outcome, and the benefits, limitations and risks of surgery. If you do not feel well informed we would discourage you from going ahead with your surgery until you do. Dr Cooper is more than happy to spend time with you prior to your surgery answering your questions, discussing any concerns you have and ensuring you are well informed about your procedure. Our registered nurse is also available for appointments at any stage to help you with your decision and answer any questions you may have. The Day Of SurgeryThanks to advances in surgical techniques and anaesthesia, shorter recovery times are now more commonplace with breast augmentation surgery. Dr Cooper performs all of his cosmetic surgical procedures in accredited private hospitals. Breast Implant Surgery is usually always done as a day procedure. On the day of your surgery you will be admitted to your chosen hospital. Following the admission process, you will meet the ward nurse who will help you settle in and prepare for your procedure. On the ward you will also receive a visit from your anaesthetist who will check your health history, prescribe any medications you may need prior to surgery and will also explain and give you reassurance about the anaesthetic process. Before your procedure, Dr Cooper will make some markings on your chest while you are in a sitting or standing position. Here, you will have time to talk to Dr Cooper. He will help make you feel at ease and answer any further questions you may have. Your surgery will last 1 to 2 hours, and will be done under a general anaesthetic. The procedure is carried out under sterile conditions in the hospital’s operating theatre. You will be in good hands with a team of medical staff including Dr Cooper, 2 theatre nurse assistants, your anaesthetist and the anaesthetic assistant. Following your surgery, you will have a short stay in the recovery room until you are fully awake. Bandaging and drain tubes are not required. You will have a small dressing over each incision. You will be required to wear a post operative surgical bra to help stabilise the implants during the healing phase. This will also help with inflammation and provide you with comfort and support. After The Surgery:How will I feel and look after my procedure? On the day of your surgery you will feel a bit sleepy. It is expected that your breasts will be swollen and that you will have a feeling of tightness and some discomfort. Pain medication will be prescribed for you to take to minimise any discomfort that you do feel. You may also experience some numbness or changes in sensation, which will improve week by week. Immediately following breast augmentation surgery, your breasts will appear very firm, high and swollen. After about 1 month, the swelling will be gone and your breasts will appear slightly lower, smaller and softer. Within a week of your surgery, the pain has usually disappeared, though your breasts may still feel tender to touch. The area where the incisions were made will be held together with dissolvable stitches hidden inside the skin. You will have a small dressing over these areas and healing of the sites will generally be complete within 2 weeks. The final result of your breast augmentation may not be completely apparent until the breast tissue and the pectoral muscle (if the implants have been placed below the muscle) have adjusted to the new shape. » Click Here to go to the main Breast Augmentation page. |
