ScarsIn breast augmentation surgery, the incisions are placed so that they are not normally noticeable and the result is generally a very fine scar. However, it is important to remember that surgical scars are permanent. For this reason we recommend the following to ensure a minimum amount of visible scarring at the sites of incision. If you have a tendency to form hypertrophic scars (raised scars), or have a history of keloid scarring, it is important to discuss this with Dr Cooper at your initial consultation. For care of your scar, we advise that as a minimum, you use a topical anti-oxidant and apply massage to the area where the incision was made once it is healed. You can continue with this for up to 6 months. Our registered nurse will discuss this with you and provide you with an appropriate product to use at home.Silicone gel sheeting has also proven to be very effective in scar prophylaxis. If you are particularly worried about the appearance of a scar, our registered nurse will provide you with more information about this option. ยป Click Here to go to the main Breast Augmentation page. |
